An attempt to force earthbox tomatoes to set fruit
It’s July 7th and my tomatoes here in Northern Wisconsin aren’t flowering much. I got worried and, being the impatient soul I am, decided to force the issue. And not very scientically at that.
I decided that I would add a bit of hydroponic nutrient solution to the reservoirs of the earthboxen in which I’m growing a variety of heirloom tomatoes.
I added 15 ml of 0-6-5 hydroponic nutrient solution to each box. 0-6-5 is often labeled as ‘bloom’ solution. Unscientifcally, I didn’t keep a separate control group. I do have a separate patio garden at my home which I’ve left alone. There are however too many differences between the gardens to really call the patio garden a control group.
Notes from weeks later:
I can’t say for sure that this improved plant health, but it seemed to do so and certainly didn’t hurt anything. The plants flowered abundantly and fruited the same.
